Yandex Metrica has changed how it calculates views within a single visit. The update was published on April 30 in the “Change History” section of its support pages.
Now, the system only counts internal transitions as views during a visit. Repeat visits from external sources, like search engines, will no longer be included in the view count for the same session.
This means if a user clicks through from a search engine to a website, then returns again via another search result during the same session, the second visit will not count as a new view. It also won’t register as a repeat page view.
These changes may impact key metrics like session depth, visit duration, and bounce rates.
Viktor Kargin, the author of the SEO-focused Telegram channel SEOсhat, commented on the update. He noted that Yandex may be trying to counteract manipulation techniques. Some site owners artificially boost metrics by encouraging repeated transitions from search results.
Kargin described the update as “strange” because the second visit during the same session is no longer tracked as a view. He believes this may lead to underreporting of legitimate user engagement.
This update could lead to lower view counts in Yandex Metrica reports, especially for sites that rely heavily on search traffic. It also may influence how SEO performance is interpreted.
Yandex has not provided further details beyond the brief note on the support site.
Webmasters using Metrica should review how this change affects their analytics and consider adjusting their performance benchmarks accordingly.
