Yandex has appointed Alexey Gusakov as the new technical director of its Search and Advertising Technologies business group. He previously served as the technical director of Yandex Search. In his new role, he will oversee the implementation of a unified technology strategy and coordinate the development of technologies across Yandex.
Strengthening Engineering Leadership
The company stated that this appointment will reinforce the role of engineers in top management. Gusakov will focus on improving recommendation systems, expanding machine learning infrastructure, and optimizing business processes with AI. The business group will continue integrating artificial intelligence into Yandex products and developing open-source solutions.
Yandex also remains committed to advancing its large language models, including YandexGPT, and supporting research through Yandex Research.
Background and Achievements
Gusakov graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University. He joined Yandex in 2015 and played a key role in developing its AI technologies.
In 2016, he created Yandex’s first neural network for Search, which led to the Palekh search algorithm. He also led the Alice team and helped develop Yandex’s voice technologies, now used for video translation in the Browser.
Under his leadership, Yandex released YandexGPT and the diffusion neural network YandexART. These technologies power services like Alice, Masterpiece, Yandex Direct, and Market.
