Samsung and NAVER Cloud Launch Korea’s First Private 5G Network

Samsung Electronics and NAVER Cloud have launched South Korea’s first private 5G network. The network is deployed at NAVER’s new second headquarters, called “1784,” and will support NAVER’s cloud-based autonomous mobile robots.

This is the world’s first use of private 5G to power robots that assist employees within a building. The robots will provide services such as delivering packages, coffee, and lunch.

NAVER Cloud operates an IT infrastructure and provides enterprise solutions for NAVER and its subsidiaries. It also provides public cloud services to various industries.

Samsung and NAVER Cloud signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in March 2022 to collaborate on private 5G networks. They plan to develop new business models and expand private 5G networks globally.

Sangyoung Han, Executive Director at NAVER Cloud, added in the press release:

NAVER’s new headquarters serves as a test bed to explore technologies of the future, where 5G network and cloud play a central role.

Samsung aims to expand private 5G use cases to industries such as transportation, healthcare, and education. The company continues to lead 5G development with its end-to-end solutions, including virtualized RAN, core networks, and AI-powered automation.
