Yandex has officially opened submissions for YRGB 2025, its international retro game development competition. Developers from around the world are invited to build games for the ZX Spectrum 48K or 128K systems.
The submission deadline is July 28, 2025. Entries must be uploaded to the competition page before that date.
YRGB celebrates the creativity required to build games for limited hardware. The ZX Spectrum, initially released in the 1980s, is known for its minimal memory and unique color palette. Crafting games for this system remains a challenge, even for experienced developers.
Yandex encourages retro game enthusiasts to take part and showcase their technical skills. The company calls it “an art form in its own right.”
This year’s competition follows previous successful editions, which have drawn entries from indie developers and retro-gaming fans worldwide.
More information about the contest and rules can be found on the YRGB competition page hosted by Yandex.
